This year's auction again features several lots for philatelists interested in Virgin Islands stamps -- rare bisect-stamped covers from 1903 and first-day covers and stamps from 1937.

First-day covers

First-day covers

Five first-day Virgin Islands covers dated Dec. 15, 1937, two with four stamps, three with one stamp, est. value $100

Bisect stamped covers

Bisect stamped covers

Three 1903 St. Thomas bisect stamped covers, dated Jan. 21, Jan. 23 and April 27, extremely rare finds. On Jan. 1, 1902, domestic letters and foreign postcards went from 3 cents to 2 cents; however, the Danish West Indies never had 2-cent stamps, so the 4-cent stamps were used for five months, from Jan. 20 to May 23, 1902, until 2-cent stamps arrived, est. value $150-$200
